Surgical gastroenterology is a Surgical specialty that deals with the surgical treatment of disorders and diseases affecting the Gastrointestinal tract (GI tract), Esophagus, Stomach, Small and Large bowel, Liver, Pancreas and Biliary system.

Scope of Surgical Gastroenterology

Surgical gastroenterology encompasses a wide range of procedures for Trauma, Congenital disorders, Infections, Tumors and Malignancy of GIT  including:

·         Gastrointestinal surgery: treating conditions like:

o    Hernias

o    Appendicitis

o    Diverticulitis

o    Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

·         Hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery: treating conditions like :

o    Liver tumors

o    Pancreatic cancer

o    Gallstones

o    Bile duct injuries

·         Endoscopic surgery: minimally invasive procedures using endoscopes

·         Laparoscopic surgery: minimally invasive procedures using laparoscopes

·         Robotic surgery: using robotic systems to assist in surgery
